- Who Are We?
-
I
n 2010 we purchased a Church Video Licence for screenings in the
Church and halls. This gives us access to the catalogues of most of the
major Hollywood and independent studios.
- What Do We Do? -
Our Church Video Licence has proved to be a most valuable resource. We
have been showing some of the films discussed in Tim Cawkwell’s book, The
Filmgoer's Guide to God (Tim’s book is an exploration of theological
ideas expressed through film. For more on this
click here. The screenings have included Babette's Feast,
O Brother Where Art Thou?, Rome, Open City, and The Night
of the Hunter and our Film Evenings have proved to be most convivial,
with drinks and snacks to fuel post-film discussion.
Just before Christmas, Hayley hosted a very well attended (despite the
snow) Family Film Matinee. The film that we chose was Toy Story 3 and
it was enjoyed by everyone present , young and old, even those who hoovered
up the popcorn off the carpet afterwards!
The Pathfinders have also taken advantage of our Licence, organising a
screening of Pixar’s Up to raise money for disaster relief. More
recently it has allowed us to begin using film clips as part of the teaching
in our Young Church.
- How Do I Join? -
Just
come to Church to find out "what’s on". You'll be made very welcome.
Our Church Video Licence is a resource is available to any group within the
congregation or Young Church. We are always looking for new ways to use it.
If you have an idea, please let us know.
The terms of our Licence are such that screenings can only be promoted to
you if you come to Church (whether regularly or not) and such promotion can
only take place in the Church and halls (for example, from the pulpit, in
pew leaflets, flyers and posters). But you are free to invite guests to
screenings.
For more information, please contact me, Ross Annan, through the Church
Office.
