- Helping Homeless People -
Over the last 13
years our church has provided items for the homeless which are collected
in the entrance to our Halls and are taken to St.Catharine’s every Sunday
by our team of volunteer drivers.
St Catharine’s is
in Lauriston Street and provides food, warm clothing and help in various
ways for their visitors who spent the nights on the street.
Where do they
sleep? — in graveyards, in the streets, on park benches, skips, in
cardboard boxes and even in the shovels of things like JCB diggers. You
can well imagine the need the homeless have for warm, waterproof clothing,
a bath or shower and for HOT meals, prepared for them by the Sisters and
volunteers at St. Catharine’s.
We are now entering the new season for
collecting for items needed by the Centre for the Homeless, and are
looking forward to the many donations coming in to the Church. As from 5th
September all items donated during the week must be handed in to the
Church Office and will then be put in a safe place till taken to St
Catharine's on each Sunday.
We would be grateful for dried or
tinned foods, clothing (for adults only, not for children or babies)
cleaning materials, black bags, disposable gloves, toiletries such as
toothpaste and brushes, soap, shampoo, and disposable razors. If you
cannot manage to bring a donation to the church yourself, then please ring
the Church Office and a convenient time for collection will be arranged.
